Terry Funk debuts

Future world champion Terry Funk had his debut match in the winter of 1965.

EDIT: After this article was originally posted, it was informed that the match on 12-09 was Terry’s Amarillo debut. He wrestled his first match under the name ‘Terrible Terry’ against Red Osborne in Brownfield three days earlier. Nonetheless, this match, which took place in a small town located approximately 40 miles southwest of Lubbock, most likely served as a build-up for the Amarillo match.

Sputnik Monroe kept kicking the ropes and was not allowing Terry Funk to enter the ring. When the referee pushed Monroe away, Funk jumped in the ring and pinned his opponent in 10 seconds.

Monroe begged for 5 more minutes with Funk, who agreed to 10 minutes. The extension ended as a draw, and Funk officially won his debut match against the veteran.
